Owen Smith MP: “Can we stop Brexit?”, Saturday 9 June, 11:30 – 13:00, Widcombe Social Club, Bath

Bath for Europe are delighted to present Owen Smith MP, speaking in Bath for the first time. He is the latest in a string of high-profile figures eager to engage with our supporters and our community.

Owen Smith has been the Welsh Labour MP for Pontypridd since 2010 and has served in a number of Frontbench roles including: Shadow Wales Office Minister; Shadow Health Minister; Shadow Treasury Minister and Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.

His vocal support for remaining in the Single Market and his calls for a referendum on the final Brexit deal led to his sacking from the Labour front bench in March this year. However, he continues to speak up for his views from the back benches, and stress the importance of honouring the Good Friday Agreement.

“Given that it is increasingly obvious that the promises the Brexiters made to the voters … are never going to be honoured, we have the right to keep asking if Brexit remains the right choice for the country. And to ask, too, that the country has a vote on whether to accept the terms, and true costs of that choice, once they are clear.” (Guardian, 23/03/2018)

We have asked him to speak to us about all things Brexit, and his special knowledge of the relationship with Northern Ireland is sure to be riveting. Bring your questions and look forward to an insightful session!
