Rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the Bath for Europe supporters who turned our monthly rally on Sunday 2nd December into a carol concert in front of Bath’s Guildhall. The group sang traditional Christmas carols and “Ode to Joy” with updated lyrics that reflect our passionate belief that the UK belongs in the European Union. Our carols caught the attention of visitors to the Bath Christmas market as well as rugby fans in town for a match.

With flags, banners and umbrellas held aloft, the merry group sang “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” and “In the Bleak Midwinter”, followed by a darkly humorous version of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. In case you missed it, here are the lyrics written by Rebecca Hilliard:

On the TWELTH day of Brexit, my true love said to me:

  • 12 months of shortages
  • 11 thousand nurses gone
  • Number 10 posturing
  • 9 Lords a-profiting
  • 8 miles of tailbacks
  • 7 hundred trade deals lost
  • 6 car co’s leaving
  • 5 Uniii-Coooorns!
  • 4 split lands
  • 3 banks gone
  • Its not 2 late to change…

Oh, I wish that we could stay in the EU.

The group chanted “What do we want? A People’s Vote! When do we want it? Now!” and set off on a march around the Guildhall.

Pressure is mounting higher than ever in advance of Parliament’s meaningful vote on 11th December. A number of our supporters are planning to spend time outside the Houses of Parliament with the amazing Steve Bray of SODEM in the run up to the vote. If you can, please join us! Steve is a constant reminder to our politicians and the media that Brexit would be a catastrophe. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for more information.
