Bath for Europe held its monthly supporters’ gathering on Sunday 2nd February at the Widcombe Social Club. The group heard first from Bath MP Wera Hobhouse, one of its founding members, who is determined to keep the flame alive for the UK to regain its rightful place at the heart of Europe. Wera spoke about the vital work that our group has done and the strong friendships that have been forged. Bath for Europe is an integral link in a powerful national network of grassroots activists. She reminded the audience that Brexit is a Conservative Party policy. Wera is determined to call out the government on its undeliverable promises in the months ahead.

Emma Knaggs, Bath for Europe Chair, reported on the results of the group’s survey. This useful snapshot is informing our strategy going forward. The top three priorities for our group are 1) holding the government to account, 2) supporting EU citizens and 3) educating the public on the many benefits of close ties with Europe. It’s encouraging that there is a strong appetite to continue our work.
Emma also reported on the inspiring Grassroots for Europe conference which took place in London on Saturday 25th January. Several of our team members attended and were very enthusiastic about the quality of speakers.
The room became a hive of activity as supporters worked in smaller groups to brainstorm how to achieve our top priorities, and shared results with the whole group. Plans are being developed further, for example to work with Wera and her team to deliver an event for EU citizens at the end of March. We will hold our next monthly gathering on Sunday 8th March – venue to be confirmed. Many thanks to everyone who took part in this important meeting. We’re very grateful for your ongoing engagement.
